Fall Play Auditions - The Importance of Being Earnest!

We've just announced that our Fall Play for 2025 will be Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, and we are SO excited to get started! For those of you who are new to auditioning, or maybe even those seasoned veterans who still get some butterflies in your stomach, we are here to pull back the curtain on what to expect during the audition process and beyond!

Here are some commonly asked questions that you may be wondering  -

1. When are auditions?

Auditions will take place on Thursday, August 28th at 2:30 pm in the auditorium!

2. What should I expect at the audition?

We will begin with a warm-up led by one of our upperclassmen. This will give you an opportunity to prepare your mind, body, and voice to perform! Following the warm-up, you will be split into groups of ten - the groups will be divided based on when you signed up for auditions - the earlier you sign          up, the earlier you get to perform, and the earlier you get to go home! Each group of ten will be            called into the auditorium when it is your turn, and you will perform your audition piece on the stage    in front of the other members of your group, as well as the Director, Technical Director, and Stage        Manager. Once your whole group has performed you are free to go!

3. You said I will perform an audition piece - what does that look like?

For this show, you will need to prepare a one-minute comedic monologue - preferably a classical piece (think Shakespeare, Wilde, Moliere, etc). If you have never auditioned at Apex High before, you can use a piece from this folder of audition monologues. If you have auditioned or taken a Theatre Class at Apex previously, you are expected to select your own piece and perform it fully memorized.

4. What should I expect after auditions? When will I find out if I made the cast?

Following auditions, the callback list will be posted at www.apexdrama.com and announced on Instagram @apexpeakplayers. The callback list indicates which actors need to return for a second round of auditions on Friday, August 29th. Not everyone will be asked to attend callbacks, and some actors may be cast from the first round of auditions! The final company list - cast and crew - will be posted by noon on Saturday, August 30th at www.apexdrama.com and linked on Instagram.

5. If I am asked to attend the callback, what should I prepare?

The best way to prepare for callbacks is to review the script! At the callback, you will be paired up with different actors to read scenes from the show. Come ready to play - bring your best attitude and wear clothes that are comfortable to move in!

6. Who can I ask if I have questions about auditions and interviews?

You can always reach out to Ms. Levine, Director, at llevine@wcpss.net or Mr. Bunch, Technical Director, at bbunch@wcpss.net. Our student leadership is also always happy to answer any questions you may have!

7. What if I'm too nervous to audition?

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous about auditioning! It means that you care about what you are doing, and that is a good thing! We hope that even if you are nervous, you will find the courage to show up - you don't have to be perfect, and every audition is a great opportunity to practice performing :) We will cheer you on no matter what!

I hope that this has offered you some insight into the audition process and what to expect! We can't wait to see you at the Kickoff/Info Session on August 26th, and at auditions on August 28th!
